‘Among thousands of men scarcely one strives for perfection [Self-realization], and of the strivers, scarcely one knows Me in truth.’ ( Bhagavad Gita : VII; 3 ) Progress in human life is usually measured in terms of social advancement and material success. How many of us give a thought to the real advancement which lies in spiritual development? While acquiring material prosperity we should never lose perspective of spiritual fulfilment. Real advancement lies in awakening the divine potential latent within us. It lies in realizing the Eternal Bliss of the Self (soul). The teachings of the Bhagavad Gita emphasize a total and comprehensive advancement of man. According to Indian philosophy, we must achieve in our life both material prosperity (abhyudaya) and spiritual fulfilment (nishreyas). |
